12:20 pm   Breast Cancer & the Environment:  Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition

Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer for women in Wisconsin, and the second highest cancer killer. We introduce the concept of "Windows of Susceptibility," periods of vulnerability to environmental factors that may affect breast cancer risk later in life. Drawing from the Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program, we provide resources and recommendations that the audience can take home and put into practice to help reduce their risk.We take the science and translate it into practical actions and tips that focus on diet/nutrition, exercise, weight, and chemical avoidance.

About Dawn Anderson retired in 2015 after 10 years as Executive Director of the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition. A WBCC volunteer since 1994, she was a community partner on research conducted at UW-Madison as part of the Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program. She currently serves on the UW Carbone Cancer Center's Breast Cancer Research Advocacy Network and on the WBCC policy and education committees.  She dedicates her efforts to the memory of her mom and grandmother, both of whom died from breast cancer.
